StarFire Electric LLC / Georgetown, Texas
A practical layer of protection for the technology your home depends on.
Whole-house surge protector installation
Your AC, refrigerator, EV charger, and smart TV have something in common: electronics that can be damaged by sudden voltage spikes. A power strip at your desk does not cover all of them.
StarFire Electric LLC installs whole-home surge protection in Georgetown, TX, with a panel-mounted surge protective device selected for your home and professionally installed by Martin, the owner and Master Electrician.

Protection starts at the panel
Your comfort, connected devices, and daily routines all depend on sensitive electronics.
Heating & cooling
Kitchen appliances
EV charging
Home electronics
Panel-mounted surge protection + protection where sensitive equipment needs it.
Local conditions. Everyday exposure.
Storms are one source of risk. Switching events outside and inside your home can also create the brief overvoltage events that stress electronic components.
Central Texas storms can produce lightning-related surges, including from nearby strikes. Some spikes can rise thousands of volts above normal household voltage in a tiny fraction of a second.
Switching on the electric grid and restoring power after an interruption can create brief voltage spikes. A surge is different from the power outage itself.
Motors and other electrical loads inside a home can also generate surges as they switch on and off. The issue is not limited to severe weather.
Established homes. Modern technology.
Many established Georgetown and Sun City homes were built before smart appliances, connected entertainment, induction cooking, and home EV charging became everyday features.
Even equipment that looks simple can contain sensitive control boards. Modern inverter-driven AC equipment, smart refrigerators, and chargers all rely on electronics to operate.
Surge protection does not increase your panel’s capacity. If you are adding a large electrical load, ask us to assess capacity as a separate part of the project.
How panel-mounted surge protection works
1
A compatible surge protective device, or SPD, is connected at the panel as a first layer of protection for the home’s electrical circuits.
2
The SPD limits the surge voltage by diverting surge current. Correct device selection, wiring, and grounding/bonding all matter.
3
This helps reduce the surge energy reaching connected equipment. Additional protection can be used near sensitive devices or particular appliances.
Surge protection reduces risk. It is not backup power, and no SPD can guarantee that every device will survive every surge or a direct lightning strike.
Understand the difference
Use protection at the panel as a foundation, then add appropriate protection at sensitive equipment. Each has a different role.
Extra outlets, not surge protection.
A basic strip without surge-protective circuitry adds plug-in outlets. It does not suppress voltage spikes.
Protection for connected devices.
A listed surge-protective strip can add a layer of protection for the equipment plugged into it.
A broader first layer.
A whole-home surge protective device helps limit surges on home electrical circuits, including circuits serving hardwired appliances.
Surges can also enter through connected communication lines. Ask about a coordinated approach for equipment with power, data, or coax connections.
AC surge protection in Georgetown, TX
When cooling, refrigeration, or another essential system stops working, the disruption goes beyond the repair bill. Replacing a control board or major appliance can be costly.
A whole-home surge protector is a practical preventive upgrade to consider alongside the value of the equipment in your home. We will explain the installation scope and give you a quote before you decide.
For HVAC equipment, EV chargers, or outbuildings, ask whether additional protection near the equipment is appropriate. Recommendations depend on your wiring, equipment, and manufacturer requirements.
Recommendations built around your panel and the equipment you want to protect.

Clear answers before you book
The installed cost depends on the SPD selected, your electrical panel, and any additional work needed for a proper installation. Request a free quote so we can explain the scope and pricing for your home.
A correctly selected and installed panel-mounted SPD helps reduce surge exposure on connected circuits, including those serving hardwired appliances such as HVAC equipment. Additional protection near equipment may be appropriate. Martin can review your AC, EV charger, or other equipment as part of the assessment.
For sensitive plug-in electronics, listed point-of-use surge protectors can add another layer of protection. A basic power strip is not necessarily a surge protector. Whole-home and point-of-use devices serve complementary roles.
No. An SPD addresses brief voltage surges; it does not provide backup power or generally correct low voltage or sustained overvoltage. No SPD guarantees protection against every event or a direct lightning strike. Backup power and structural lightning protection are separate considerations.
Often, yes. Martin first checks the existing panel and installation conditions. The home’s age alone does not mean a panel replacement is required. Any needed repairs or upgrades are discussed before you approve the work.
We select a UL-listed SPD suitable for your electrical system and the proposed installation location. The choice may involve a Type 1 or Type 2 device, depending on the application and manufacturer instructions. We explain the selected product and its status indicators with your quote.
A power interruption may be needed to complete the work safely. We discuss the installation plan and expected interruption with you before scheduling, including any equipment or household needs that require planning.
Follow the selected manufacturer’s instructions and check its protection-status indicators. If an indicator changes, goes out, or signals a fault, contact us for an assessment. SPDs can wear out and may need replacement after significant surge exposure; they are not lifetime guarantees.
